The Institutional Overview
Qualité Afrique is a Pan-African International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO) dedicated to the transformation and protection of the continent's agricultural landscape. Headquartered in Lomé, Togo, and building upon a strong foundational presence across the ECOWAS region, our mission is anchored in three driving forces: Organic Agriculture, Agroecology, and Geographical Indications (GI). We operate at the critical intersection of grassroots agricultural practice and high-level continental policy. We believe that true food sovereignty requires more than just sustainable farming; it requires the aggressive protection of African agricultural heritage, the empowerment of marginalized producers, and the establishment of robust, climate-resilient food systems.
Leadership Profile
Qualité Afrique is led by our Executive Director, Prof. Jude Obi. As a preeminent authority in African agricultural policy, Prof. Obi’s leadership bridges the gap between rigorous science and continental food sovereignty. His foundational expertise as a Professor of Pedology and Pedometrics provides the unshakeable scientific basis for our Organic Agriculture, Agroecology and Sustainability initiatives. Beyond the science, his high-level institutional mandates including his roles as the former President of the Association of Organic Agriculture Practitioners of Nigeria (NOAN) and Secretary of the African Organic Network (AfrONet) and Member, Steering Committee of AU-led Continental Steering Committee of EOA, position him as a leading continental architect for scaling Organic Agriculture and establishing robust Geographical Indications (GI) frameworks to protect African farmers and the food system.
Our Core Mandate (Thematic Pillars)
Pillar A: Policy, Standards and Geographical Indications (GI): We serve as a regional technical authority, harmonizing organic agricultural standards and trade policies across borders. We champion the establishment of Geographical Indications to protect Africa’s unique agricultural products, securing premium global market access and defending the intellectual property of our farming communities.
Pillar B: Youth and Technology (The Agro-Digital Corps): We reject the model of forcing youth into subsistence farming. Instead, we create dignified, technology-driven livelihoods by training youth as agricultural service providers equipped with digital survey tools, precision mapping, and digital marketplace platforms.
Pillar C: Agroecology and Soil Restoration: We bridge the gap between science and grassroots practice. By deploying mobile soil laboratories and validating local bio-inputs, we replace expensive, imported synthetic chemicals with localized, climate-resilient organic solutions that restore soil health and boost smallholder productivity.
Pillar D: Nutrition and Health (Combating Hidden Hunger): We operate on the principle that soil health equals human health. Our initiatives integrate nutrition-sensitive agriculture—such as sustainable peri-urban aquaculture and "Garden-to-Plate" bio-fortified crop kits—to combat micronutrient deficiencies and ensure absolute food security.
Pillar E: Institutional Excellence and Capacity: We believe true sustainability requires unshakeable operational sovereignty. We build audit-ready, transparent institutional frameworks that guarantee accountability to global donors, ensuring that our technical diplomats and regional partners can operate with maximum efficiency and integrity.
